Happy new year!

I kicked off this morning with a hungover 5k at parkrun. The best way to start the year!

I’ve seen a lot of 2023 in review posts and yes my year wasn’t all bad, but I’m bloody done with it!

I want to look forward to this year. I’m aiming to be ambitious and unashamedly so.

I admit the past year or 2 I’ve tried to be happy with my running because some people would love to run at my pace. And I get it. It’s true.

But I’m not running for those people. I’m running for me. To get better. And I’m fed up of feeling guilty for being upset for not hitting a goal.

I apologise if this offend anyone, but I’m done with it.

I’m fully capable of hitting these goals and it’s not healthy bottling my feelings up.

Ahem.

Anyway, now that’s off my chest let’s talk about these goals shall we?

This year will be better

Run a marathon in 4hr 30

Yep. This is a big goal. Not only do I want to run my first marathon but I want to run it in 4hr 30.

This is my ambitious out there goal, if I don’t hit this time goal I’ll still be chuffed as I’ll have run a marathon!

When I was training for Edinburgh last year, I did feel like I had a lot more to give. So I fully believe if I don’t get injured or whatever, I can give this a good go.

Get a PB in the half marathon

This is something I’ve been chasing for a good few years.

I’m running Liverpool half marathon in March and I hope to achieve this then. I am conscious however that I’ve lost a lot of power since the summer. I’ll see how RED January goes and assess where I’m at.

I’m not too worried as I also have Chester half marathon in May. I think realistically by then I’ll have progressed further to achieve this goal. It’s exciting to have options!

I loved running in Liverpool last time

Join a run at silver pace with my running club

See, I am being ambitious!

But again, it’s something I can definitely achieve if I keep pushing myself with the support of my running club. They are currently quicker than me, something that I’d get embarrassed about.

However I plan to use this to my advantage. They can pace me and keep me going when I likely just want to give up.

Lindley Running Club

So those are my goals for the year. It’s scary to see it written down and I will be relying on the support from you all to get me there.

What are your goals?
