So I’ve run all my races this year and have nothing to train for. What do I do now? Book something else?
Well here are some of the things I’ve been up to…

Rest
Yes, rest! There’s always that worry about losing fitness after building up those miles. I’ve not cut out running completely, but I haven’t been continually running 5 days with 25+ miles. I’ve had extra rest days and as it’s now the festive period, I’ve used more time to spend with friends and family (whilst we still can!!).
Join a Running Club
I’d been meaning to do this for a while but I’ve been continually following some sort of plan since March. I just didn’t have the time to join a club and have to shuffle everything around.
I’ve joined Lindley Run Club and I’m really enjoying it so far. I join them on their track and interval sessions and it’s definitely what I’ve been missing since moving back to Huddersfield. I haven’t joined in on the group runs yet, but I’m hoping to in the new year. I’m sure running with them will improve my horrific hill running form, haha!
Explore!
I’m so lucky to be able to run and there’s a whole world out there as cheesy as it sounds. Huddersfield has some breathtaking routes in the countryside. Friends have also shown me some new routes that I never knew existed!
When you don’t have a pace or mileage to aim for, it’s the perfect chance to get out there. Just make sure you let someone know where you’re heading, just in case!

Strength training/Yoga
This is the perfect opportunity to do something different and try something new.
I first started Yoga during lockdown but it’s something I now do nearly everyday. I’m not amazing at it, but I enjoy it and find it helps me mentally and physically.
I did plan to do more weights and strength work, but it’s a little sporadic. That’s OK, sometimes trying to force a workout in can make things worse.

Mini Goals
Those are the main things I’m doing, as well as continuing with social runs and Parkrun.
I’ve also set some mini goals, such as running faster at a focused effort up certain hills. I usually just slow down when running up because it burns!
What do you like to do to keep motivated when you have nothing to train for?
