I’m still running and enjoying it, but the passion to push myself isn’t there.

Don’t get me wrong, deep down I want to. I’d love to be able to sprint off but I’ve lost a lot of confidence and really… I’m pretty tired.
I’ve been training on and off since March. So I’m looking forward to taking it easy for a few weeks, actually fitting in some strength training and think about what I actually want.
First things first though, I know a few of you are wondering how London Landmarks Half Marathon went…
London Landmarks Half Marathon
It was Yorkshire day and I was lucky enough to be running through central London. The support was absolutely fantastic, it really did feel like a celebration after the crazy year we’ve had.
I set off thinking, let’s see how we go, but after the second mile I realised this wasn’t going to be a race today.
So I carried on and after mile 6, I started to walk a bit.
What I found was that although it wasn’t the 27 degrees scorcher that was initially forecast (phew!), it was still very warm! I took my own water for the race but I ran out.
The positive was that I didn’t feel dizzy or sick like I did at Southport. Yes, I was slower but I was also safe and still smiling. This race has confirmed that I am not a summer runner ha!
I can hear some of you say that if I kept trying I’d get there and you’re right. The thing is though, I really don’t enjoy running in these conditions. If I don’t enjoy it, I’m not going to do it.
The route itself went through central London. It was great to see some of the city in a different light, like we were on a running tour of the city! I absolutely loved hearing the Bow Bells, did get a little teary – I felt very fortunate to be there running.
At times it was a little all over the place and looping around back on yourself which I found confusing, but this was to help make it covid safe so I was more than happy!
One thing I didn’t like was mile 12, as when I was running down the Embankment there were others running up towards the finish! I couldn’t see the turn around point so I was getting annoyed… I was so annoyed that when I did get to the turn around point, I completely missed my mum who was there cheering for me!
My favourite thing about the race was meeting all my fellow runners. The running community is so supportive and such a great laugh that it made those 13.1 miles worth it.

So what’s next?
It’s still bloody warm haha, but I do have Liverpool rock and roll half marathon in October!
The plan, for now, is to take it easy with the running and focus a little more on strength work. It was recently pointed out to me that I needed to do some more abs work, which is something I’ve completely forgotten about!

Then, it’s back to training. I’ve got a plan and I’m going to incorporate more strength work. Hopefully, as we get into autumn I can find that speed that I know I’ve got in me.
I just need a breather.
